Congressional Reform Act of 2010

What do you all think of the proposed “Congressional Reform Act of 2010”?

Mandatory Term Limits

Senators and Represtnatives shall be elected/appointed to serve no longer than twelve years, as follows:

  1. Two Six-year Senate terms
  2. Six Two-year House terms
  3. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

No Tenure = No Pension

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.

All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

If members of Congress want to fund their own retirement they can purchase their own retirement plan (401(k), IRA, etc.), just as all Americans do.

Pay Increases and Raises

Congress shall not vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

Congressional Salaries Paid Last

All programs and budget items shall be funded prior to Congress being paid their salary. If expenditures exceed revenues, the shortfall shall be offset by the utilizing the funds that would have gone to pay Congressional salaries.

Health Care

The current healthcare plan in which Congress participates is hereby terminated. Congress shall be subject to all healthcare laws, shall participate in the current health care system, and shall participate in the same health care system as the American people.

Applicability of Law

Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

Contracts

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.
