  • Under Barack Obama, government spending has increased 21.4%
  • Under Barack Obama, the federal government has gained 80,000 jobs
  • Under Barack Obama, 11 million more people are collecting food stamps
  • Under Barack Obama, welfare spending has increased 54%

The United States of America is heading toward COMPLETE ECONOMIC COLLAPSE if we don’t get entitlement spending under control China is already poised to pass us as the world’s largest economy, and we will not be able to compete if we don’t get a handle on our debt and deficit.

So far, the Democrats and the White House have been unwilling to compromise on spending cuts.

The Democrats didn’t even propose a budget while they were in power, and now the task has fallen to Republicans.

Republicans have promised to cut $100 Billion from the 2011 budget, but stubborn Democrats refuse to give up a dime.

We need to reduce spending. We can’t continue down the path we’re on.

It’s time the Democrats in Washington start listening to the American people.

Republicans have been trying to cut spending for as long as they’ve been in power. In early February, the Republican-controlled House passed a CR which cut $61 Billion from the budget, but Obama and the Democrats shot down and called a “non-starter.”

Republicans have stated that EVERYTHING is on the table when it comes to getting our massive deficit and spending under control. They have indicated that they are prepared to make the necessary reforms to entitlement spending — even if it means not getting re-elected.

This kind of dedication should be refreshing and appreciated. Unfortunately, the Democrats are still playing political games.

They hope the government WILL shut down, and they will blame it on the GOP.

Republicans do not want a government shutdown! The only ones talking about shutting down the government are the DEMOCRATS — and the American people know this.

A recent survey conducted by The Hill says that 34% of Americans would blame the DEMOCRATS for a government shutdown, compared to just 19% that would blame the GOP.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor Friday:

“The American people have made their position quite clear: reverse the reckless spending and out-of-control expansion of government Democrats have presided over the past two years. Stop growing government, so Americans can grow the economy—and the jobs that come with it.

House Republicans have proposed a plan. It would reduce spending by $61 billion in this year’s budget. Earlier this week, we voted on a two-week piece of that bill that reduces spending by $4 billion.

The White House’s proposal, as outlined by the President’s economic advisor yesterday, is to cut another $6 billion and call it a day.

So amid all the fanfare yesterday, what the White House is proposing is little more than one more proposal to maintain the status quo—to give the appearance of action where there is none.

This latest proposal is unacceptable, and it’s indefensible.”

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) has recently identified over $200 BILLION in government waste. The report shows 34 areas where duplicate programs in the federal government are operated across agencies and bureaucracies and 47 other areas where money could easily be saved.

Among the wasteful agencies are 18 food assistance programs, 20 homeless programs spread across 20 agencies, 47 job training programs spread across 9 agencies and 82 teacher-improvement programs spread across 10 agencies. There are 15 federal agencies regulating food safety.

Even more embarrassing for the government, is that it runs “financial literacy” programs—56 across 20 agencies. With our debt and deficits soaring, why would anyone trust the federal government to teach them about financing?

This report shows that even the Republicans’ plan to cut $100 Billion is easily obtainable. Just cutting all the waste mentioned in the GAO report would double that promise! Barack Obama has agreed that this is a damaging report, maybe now he and his Democrat allies will start making REAL spending reform.

The Democrats will promise everything to everyone, in order to gain political favor. This kind of cowardice — the inability to say “no” — is destroying this great nation.

On November 2nd, 2010, Americans voted to reduce spending and for the government to stop driving our country into a black hole. Now it’s time for Congress to do the right thing and let taxpayers know that their voices have been heard.

The American people have spoken. Freezing spending at these current out-of-control rates is UNACCEPTABLE. The federal government needs to cut everything that they can. This is just a start, but the fate of our nation depends on whether we can get our economy back on track or not.

Please join me in demanding fiscal responsibility.

Sincerely,

Tony Adkins
