The House of Representatives just passed a bill to slow down EPA regulations

...

Last Friday, the House passed the Transparency in Regulatory Analysis of Impacts on the Nation (TRAIN) Act of 2011(H.R.2401). This bill will slow down the onslaught of job-destroying, business-crushing regulations that the EPA forces down our throats.

The TRAIN Act will:

  • Keep the EPA from producing regulations that would raise energy prices
  • Reject the EPA’s constant attempts to destroy the coal industry
  • Ensure that America is able to use its own natural resources for energy, instead of relying on foreign energy and promises of “alternative” energy

The TRAIN Act specifically targets two (of many) EPA regulations, known as the MACT Rule and the Transport Rule. Each will significantly raise YOUR energy prices by creating a backdoor energy tax and will also weaken America’s electricity supply (which runs on coal) – not to mention it will also destroy thousands of high-paying jobs.

Even though America’s mining, manufacturing and energy producers warn the EPA that the impending onslaught of regulations will significantly hinder economic growth at a time when we can least afford it, the EPA continues to force these burdensome regulations.

The TRAIN Act will stop this.

It will force the EPA to assess their regulations by including the impact it will have on jobs. Until now, jobs have never mattered to the EPA. All they care about is destroying businesses they think are dirty.

It’s now time for the Senate to take up H.R.2401 and let the American people know they’re COMMITTED to getting this economy moving again. By passing the TRAIN Act, businesses will be able to breathe easier knowing they won’t be bogged down with even MORE red tape.

Why isn’t the economy moving? Because the EPA is actively working to stop growth and economic progress.

Last Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) filed a response that was over 160 pages to a group of businesses and states that are suing them over its constant stream of regulations. Specifically, the group is suing over the timing and tailoring rules for greenhouse gas regulations included in the Clean Air Act.

The regulations will start to hinder new facilities and eventually cripple small businesses across the country.

The EPA has decided that it can arbitrarily choose when and how to regulate pollutants, even though the Clean Air Act sets limits. The EPA inadvertently admits in their response that the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions for small businesses will be far more devastating than originally claimed. They’ll be more expensive, require more bureaucracy and happen much sooner than previously thought.

“Tailoring,” is just EPA speak for “targeting.” They will force compliance “as quickly as possible,” and begin targeting small businesses once enough bureaucrats have been hired to implement the program (i.e. once they receive enough federal funding.)

These emissions regulations will require 10,000 more federal employees at the state and local levels and another $1.5 billion in government spending.

The EPA plans to destroy jobs AND increase government spending by over a billion dollars.

Permits will be required for businesses emitting green house gasses, and processing these permits will require 230,000 more federal employees and cost $21 billion a year.

The EPA’s budget is only $9 billion a year.

The permitting costs to businesses? $50 billion a year.

All this is coming… very soon.

But there is hope!

As predicted, President Obama and his leftist allies oppose slowing down regulations. You might hear the President talk about cutting red tape and letting businesses grow…so long as it’s none of the regulations implemented under his administration.

Businesses are hurting, they know that regulations from Dodd-Frank, Obamacare and the EPA are coming and will crush them. With the TRAIN Act, they can breathe a little easier knowing that at least the EPA will be getting off their backs. And, for the first time, they’ll know they have a Congress truly dedicated to rolling back burdensome regulations.

Unfortunately, Democrats in the Senate (who hold the majority) are in full support of the EPA’s backdoor energy tax no matter how many businesses and jobs are destroyed.

We know where liberals in the Senate stand, but there are nearly two dozen up for re-election next year, many of whom are very vulnerable. THEY can be persuaded to do the right thing, not only for their country, but also for their re-election. It will be very difficult to defend a vote against getting rid of red tape.

The EPA has gone wild with power. What started as an agency that could make recommendations to Congress; has become an agency hell-bent on destroying everything that currently drives America.

If businesses are ever going to hire again, they need to know that they won’t be crushed by regulations or burdened by red tape. The TRAIN Act is the first step in giving them that certainty.

We cannot let the EPA continue to issue regulations without considering the effect on businesses and jobs first. Please Fax every Member of the SENATE now and tell them to pass H.R.2401!

Respectfully,
