I recently wrote to Senator Hatch asking that he support this legislation in its original form and received the following reply:
Dear Mr. Levi: Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for S 669, the Vetrans2nd Amendment Protection Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important topic. As you may know, S. 669 was introduced March 23, 2009, by Senator Richard Burr. This legislation seeks to require a judge’s order before a person can be denied access to a firearm. This bill is awaiting further action in the Senate. You may not know that my only brother was killed in World War II. I have been a longtime supporter of our men and women in uniform. I have always sought to ensure that our soldiers receive the support and honor they rightly deserve, and I will continue to do so. Should this bill or similar legislation come before the Senate, I will certainly keep your support in mind.
Again, thank you for writing to me.
Sincerely,
Orrin G. Hatch
United States Senator

Unfortunately, Senator Hatch falls short of committing his support for this (or similar) legislation, nor does he offer any assistance in calling for “further action in the Senate”.
If you feel S. 669 is an important piece of Federal legislation, I urge you to write to Senator Hatch, or call his office asking that he actively pursue advancing this (or similar) legislation through the Senate.
