Senator Hatch on why he opposes ObamaCare (video)

Fellow Utahns,

I’m pleased to announce that Mark Zuckerberg, the Founder and CEO of Facebook will be joining me for a Technology and Policy Forum at BYU on March 25th.  This event is open to the public and free. It will be in a question and answer format, questions must be submitted in advance here.

Also this past week, the Senate passed my patent reform bill, which will update and streamline Patents for the first time since the 1950’s.  This bi-partisan bill will give innovators and businesses the tools they need to create new products and jobs.  I also introduced my bi-partisan anti-appropriations committee to fight government waste and tackle those under performing federal programs.

Finally, I voted against the Democrat’s proposal of the Federal Government’s budget because it spends too much.  I feel like a broken record on my stance against government spending, but honestly we must cut back.

You’re invited! Hatch, Zuckerberg to Headline Innovation and Public Policy Forum at BYU

“Facebook’s transformative technology has truly changed the way that people interact with one another, whether as friends, family, or even as citizens. And, it is creating jobs and spawning entirely new industries. I especially appreciate the ability Facebook gives me to communicate directly and openly with the people of Utah about the issues they care most about. This event will be an exciting opportunity to discuss social media, how it started and where it is heading, for the high-tech sector in Utah and across the nation.”

Admission to the event is free and open to the general public. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. and all must be seated by 10:45 a.m. Visitor parking is available at the Marriott Center and LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Questions from the audience must be submitted by March 22nd, online to http://on.fb.me/BYUTech

Below is my interivew on PBS talking about my opposition to ObamaCare.

Hatch, Udall Introduce Bill Establishing Committee to Eliminate Nonessential Federal Programs

“Our nation has reached a tipping point. Our debt now tops $14 trillion, which equates to more than $42,000 for every American man, woman and child. We can start tackling our debt by targeting the fat on Washington’s bloated bureaucracy. This is a common-sense way of saving taxpayers billions, and that is exactly what this common-sense legislation does.”  For the full statement click here.

Sweeping Patent Reform Bill Clears the Senate

“Our patent laws should be in the iPad age, not the sock hop age. This bill will bring our nation’s patent system squarely into the 21st century and will better position our inventors and entrepreneurs to compete in today’s global economy. This bill represents the first significant changes to the U.S. patent system since 1952.” Read the full comments here.

Hatch on Democrats Spending Proposals

Republicans and Democrats have very different ideas about how to address this spike in spending. Either we can step off the pedal, hit the brakes, and bring spending back in line with historical levels — levels that respect our Constitution of limited government and respect taxpaying citizens. Or we can keep the car on cruise control and drive the car off the cliff. Republicans want to hit the brakes. Democrats want to pull a Thelma and Louise with our economy. I, for one, am not going to sit back and let them do this. Read the speech here.

Hatch, Senate Colleagues Introduce National Right to Work Act

This bill would stop discrimination against millions of workers who don’t want to join unions. “Facing a steady decline in membership, unions have turned to strong-arm political tactics to make forced unionization the default position of every American worker – even if they don’t want it. This is simply unacceptable. At the very least, it should be the policy of the U.S. government to ensure that no employee will be forced to join a union in order to get or keep their job. The National Right to Work Act would do just that”.  See full statement here.

Sincerely,

Senator Orrin Hatch
