This week, the fight to constitutionally restrain over spending in Washington suffered a devastating blow.
All 47 Republican Senators voted to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution, ensuring a better future for our children and grandchildren.
Meanwhile, the Senate Democrats voted to defeat this amendment, proving once again that the liberals in Washington are not serious about getting our deficit under control and putting our country back on the path to prosperity.
This doesn’t mean that the fight is lost. When I become Chair of the Senate Finance Committee in 2013, I will continue to lead the charge on passing a Balanced Budget Amendment. Along with the support of Senator Mike Lee in this fight, we will not stop until the tax-and-spend liberal in Congress are constitutionally mandated to keep government spending limited to no more than it takes in.
This is Utah’s chance to solve some of the nation’s most pressing fiscal issues and the Balanced Budget Amendment is a critical part of the solution.
Sincerely,
Orrin Hatch
P.S. I’m not giving up the fight to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment, because it’s the right thing to do for our country.
