Due to a reportedly persistent power outage, the majority of web sites hosted in the Financial District of San Francisco are most notably down.
Web sites such as www.CraigsList.org, www.LiveJournal.com, and others that are noted for their seemingly universal up-times are most definitely NOT up.
Ironically, when trying to reach sites hosted at CraigList’s Denver location (denver.craigslist.org, saltlake.craigslist.org, ogden.craigslist.org, etc.) the sites are “mostly down” with “Craigs List elves working feverishly in the server room to fix things even now” (to paraphrase an error briefly displayed on their site.
Other rumors have circulated about an allegedly drunken employee running amok, unplugging and smashing things at random.
