Act now to stop the 1099 Tsunami

The House is expected to vote on a bill to repeal Obamacare’s 1099 provision TODAY.

We explain why this is a terrible provision in our 1099 Tsunami campaign page.

The good news is that the bill has overwhelming support. 274 members of the House have sponsored it.

Passage should be a slam-dunk. But, there are no guarantees . . .

  • Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid opposes repeal
  • Remember that last year’s Audit the Fed bill had over 300 co-sponsors, but was derailed by Senate leaders
  • Last year, the House passed this bill, but the Senate couldn’t agree on a final version before the year ended
  • The Senate also thinks there should be spending cuts to supposedly “pay for” the “lost revenue” from repealing this provision

While we’re all in favor of spending cuts, we show in the letter below that they’re not needed in this bill. We must tell BOTH the House AND the Senate to pass H.R. 4, without amendments.

The hard-wired message reads:

There’s a coming 1099 tsunami. Stealth language in the 2,400-page health legislation requires millions of businesses to issue hundreds of millions of additional IRS Form 1099s every year. It’s a cumbersome and expensive, anti-business measure, during a time of unemployment. Please repeal this provision now!

I also wrote these additional comments, which you may borrow from or copy . . .

H.R.4 is a short, simple bill that repeals the 1099 provision. I demand that the House pass it overwhelmingly. I also demand that the Senate pass it, UNAMENDED . . .

  • Do NOT ignore it
  • Do NOT amend it
  • Do NOT attach other items to the bill

Previous Senate attempts at repeal have included spending cuts to “pay for” the bill. Spending cuts are not needed to offset supposed “lost revenue.” No revenue will be lost! The compliance costs of this law will harm businesses. Obviously, that damage means REDUCED revenue.

Don’t get me wrong, I love spending cuts. But nothing should slow down this bill, and inserting cuts might do that. In fact, repealing this law might even aid economic growth — expand revenues. So . . .

Pass H.R.4. Do NOT amend it. The sooner it passes, the sooner small businesses can breathe a sigh of relief.
