The Total Money Makeover: Classic Edition: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness

Barry Mower of Lifetime Products recommended Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover to his employees. He said that the “system” in the book wasn’t easy but that a lot of people recommended it to him. I started to imagine the Rich Dad, Poor Dad series that advocates finding ways to get your money to work for you (rather than you working for money). I was certain that I wouldn’t be able to get into the real-estate market, or invest in a business, or who knows what else, but I gave the book a read anyway.

This book is nothing short of amazing. What’s crazy is that the information it contains isn’t anything new, it’s not some magic scheme to get rich overnight, in fact, more than once Dave says this is a “get rich slow” scheme.

This book teaches you the fundamentals of money, and without getting preachy about a budget actually convinces you to come up with a budget by pre-allocating every dollar of income before you spend a single cent of it. When the money is gone (here’s the big secret) STOP SPENDING!

Of course, it’s not as simple as that, and Dave explains why, but he also explains how. So far it’s working fabulously well at my house. We’re 4 pay-checks into applying the principles in the book and have already accomplished Baby Step #1. What’s that, you ask? Read the book! (You can thank me later.)
