PSA: Davis School District restores two "furlough" days to school calendar

Dear Syracuse Elementary Families,

Last Spring Davis School District, in an effort to trim $31 million from its budget, reduced the school year by two days, February 7 and 8, 2011. In August, Congress created an “Education Jobs Fund” bill to assist states in addressing employment issues. Last week, on November 17, 2010, our Utah State Legislature held a special session to accept this federal money. Our Board of Education has decided to use a portion of this money to reinstate the two furlough days. The resulting benefits are two learning days for students and two contract days for our employees.

Tracks A, B, and D: February 7 and 8, 2011 are restored to the school calendar.
Track C: May 12 and 13, 2011, are restored to the school calendar.

We realize that some families may have already made plans for these days. Where prior commitments cannot be changed, we have requested that administrators and teachers accommodate those plans.
