Message from Senator-Elect Mike Lee

Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe it has been nearly four weeks since election night. Having such an overwhelming number of Utahns vote for me to serve as their senator was most humbling. I continue to be amazed at the countless hours of selfless service and personal sacrifice that where given on behalf of the campaign. I have many wonderful memories of people and places across Utah from the past year and will use those images as reminders of my commitment to serve and represent the people of the great State of Utah.

The past four weeks have been a whirlwind of activity from the scores of media interviews to several trips back and forth to Washington for orientation, office setup and important caucus meetings in the Senate. I am pleased to report that one of my campaign objectives of taking on the out-of-control earmark process is well underway. On Wednesday November 17th Senate Republicans, in a significant voice vote, came out overwhelmingly in support of a two-year ban on earmarks and challenged our Democratic counterparts to do the same. Your voices were heard and real, lasting change is on the way.

I have selected my senior staff which includes, Spencer Stokes – Chief of Staff, David Barlow – General Counsel, Ryan McCoy Legislative Director, Dan Hauser – State Director and Boyd Matheson – Communications Director. Those interested in staff opportunities including case worker, administrative and support along with other general staff positions should submit a resume to resumes@mikelee2010.com no later than December 10th. Interviews will begin no later January 1, 2011. Interviews will be conducted once applications are reviewed and skill-sets are aligned to meet the needs of the various offices.

While in Washington, in the midst of being showered with procedures, processes and policies, I also sensed that we are standing at the crossroads of an important era in our nation’s history. There is clearly much to be done to return our country to the core principles of limited government it was founded on, principles which have fostered the greatest civilization the world has ever known. Yet we are certainly not alone in our pursuit of a more perfect union. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before and we stand with millions of citizens across the country who represent the voice of “we the people.” Together we can, we must and we will accomplish the task before us – not because we are Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals – but because we are Americans. I encourage you to continue the journey with me and your fellow citizens. I invite your insight and ideas, your vision and voice – we are in this together – and together we can shrink the size and cost of the federal government, jump-start the economy, create real jobs and restore the American dream.

Thank you once again for the trust and confidence you have placed in me as your senator. As I stated on election night – together we will create what’s next for our State and the nation – because of you and millions like you, I am convinced the best is yet to come!

Senator-elect Mike Lee
