Frugal Tip: Downgrade at-home Netflix, upgrade Streaming Netflix

First off, I’m assuming that you’re already paying for Netflix’s 3-DVDs unlimited plan that we talked about last time. If not, this tip might not apply to you (or it might make the last post that much more relevant!).

The idea here is to downgrade your Netflix plan from the 3-DVDs unlimited which costs $16.99/month, to their 1-DVD unlimited plan which costs $8.99/month.

That’s a big downgrade, right? Not so! Especially if you have an XBOX360 (with a Gold subscription), a newer TiVo box, any number of Netflix-enabled Blu-Ray players, a dedicated Netflix set-top box, or followed our prior “TV on Your Schedule” tip.

With any of these solutions and a high-speed internet connection (which I already assumed you had from our earlier tips) you can stream as many hours of on-demand video that you want, right to your big-screen TV! And you still get 1-DVD out at a time!

What’s more, if you want high-definition content (and your internet is fast enough) you don’t have to pay extra for their Blu-Ray plan, you can stream the HD content right to your TV. Sweet!

Of course not all videos and TV shows on Netflix are available to stream, but lots and lots are!

Savings

By following this tip, you’ll save an additional $96/year and have more shows to watch than hours to watch ’em.
