Conflicker.B Infection Alert

I don’t know why, but I seem to get a lot of malicious emails. I’m a computer geek, so I know they’re malicious and I know to delete them right away, but others out there might not be as savvy.

So, to help those of you out there that might get an email like this, be advised, it’s malicious (which is geek-speak for “really, really bad”). Delete it and move along.

Dear Microsoft Customer,

Starting 12/11/2009 the ?Conficker? worm began infecting Microsoft customers unusually rapidly. Microsoft has been advised by your Internet provider that your network is infected.

To counteract further spread we advise removing the infection using an antispyware program. We are supplying all effected Windows Users with a free system scan in order to clean any files infected by the virus.

Please install attached file to start the scan. The process takes under a minute and will prevent your files from being compromised. We appreciate your prompt cooperation.

Regards,

Microsoft Windows Agent #2 (Hollis)

Microsoft Windows Computer Safety Division

Again, if you get an email like this, it is malicious.

  1. Do not open the attachment
  2. Delete the email
  3. Get the latest Windows Updates
  4. Get the latest updates for your antivirus software

You can thank me later™.
