While religion shouldn’t be a qualifying or disqualifying factor to any candidate (even Mitt Romney, a practicing member of the LDS faith, a Christian religion sometimes called "the Mormons"), religion and upbringing both play a part in early character development and can tell us a lot about a person.
In addition to character, additional information can be deduced from this revelation: since Barack Hussien Obama was a Muslim, and now claims to be Catholic, he is now what Islamic law calls a murtadd (an apostate; an ex-Muslim converted to another religion).
Under Islamic law, all murtadd‘s must be executed. (This is what the mass media calls "the religion of peace"?)
Were Barack Hussein Obama elected president of the United States, his status as a murtadd would clearly have large potential implications for his relationship with the Muslim world — and beyond.
