Using traffic to generate power

If you’ve ever stood by a highway with a couple thousand cars whizzing by at 60+ mph you can attest to the amount of wind that the traffic pushes past you.

What if there was a way to capture this “traffic wind” and turn it into usable power?

Power Generating Highway Divider

The idea here places vertical axis wind turbines inside specially constructed highway dividers. The opposing traffic pushes the air past the turbines, which spin a generator, turning the wind into electricity.

  1. This idea is brilliant. About four years ago, when I was a freshman in college, I thought about this and my friends and I agreed that it was a great entreprenurial opportunity. These systems could be implemented literally anywhere!

  2. Jen says:

what kind of structure are they? What covers the turbines? What would happen if a vehicle went into them?
