solar cooking

August 16th, 2004 by Joe Levi

I’ve got an old Sony DirecTV DSS dish that I’m no longer using. It’s an 18″ vertical elliptical dish, but it’s a parabolic reflector nonetheless. So I broke out the silver spray paint the other day, put a coat on and left it out to dry. A few days later, I plastered another coat on.

Well, today it’s nice and dry, so all I have to do is get some lag screws and mount it to one of the many 4×4 posts in my yard and I’ll have my very own solar cooker! I still need to figure out how to mount a suitable pot support mechanism on the arm and we’ll be cooking with gas… well, or with free solar power.
