Happy Festive Winter Holiday Season

Ah… remember when we had actual holidays, with actual names that anyone could use and not be thought a bigot? Well, in the interest of political correctness:

From all of us, to all of you, we’d like to wish you a very happy Festive Winter Holiday Season, unless such wishing is unwelcome in which case we politely apologize for the intrusion.

Exploring CSS, XML, and XSLT

I’m tinkering around with the site… yes, again. My objective is to keep the site looking almost exactly as it does now, but use XHTML Strict and CSS 1 & 2 to render what’s currently a relatively mucky table-set.

Project number two, convert from my Word Document formatted resume’ to an XML document that uses XSLT to format it such that it looks almost exactly like the Word Doc version.

Now, how can you help? Well, Project 1 (which I’ve code-named “Project Enduring Standards”) is just pretty much chug and plug, no worries there. Project 2 (code-named “Project Would-you-like-fries–with-that”) presents more of a delema. Is there a de-facto standard XML schema for resume’s? Microsoft’s got one, I saw another one that looked pretty good. But I’ve yet to find anything accepted as “standard.” Monster.com, are you listening? Association of Human Resource Managers, have you thought about this? Bob’s House of Resume’s, any ideas?

Guns…

My buddy McKay has a blog… in a recent entry he speaks of firearms, to which some of the replies to his post are completely without merit.

One reply gave statistics about firearm deaths of children age 0-19 (but fails to mention what percentage of those are deaths of criminals, gang members, etc.), a reply to that says “even one is too many.” While this tugs on the heartstrings, we need to realize that there are more accidents and deaths of children by vehicles than guns. There are more accidents and deaths of children involving a trampoline than guns. There are more accidents and deaths of children by falls than by guns.

Using that logic we should outlaw trapolines, cars, and walking/running/stair climbing! After all, isn’t “even one too many”?
