Blessings

October 9th, 2003 by Joe Levi

My left wrist has been giving me problems of late, nothing major, just occasional discomfort and limited range of motion. (No, Mom, it’s not carpel tunnel.)

Well, due to this temporary alement I’ve been unable to wrestle with Michael (4.5) with as much vigour and enthusiasm as he’s come to expect. I explained why, and he’s been understanding, and more “gentle.”

That was this morning. This evening while Michael and I were snuggled up on the couch watching something on the Discovery Channel, he asked me about my wrist, and if it still hurt. When I replied in the affirmative he told me it would be okay and gently patted it. He then placed his hands on my head and before I knew what he was doing, he proceeded to give me blessing! It went something like this: “Dear Jesus, please help Daddy’s arm to feel better, and our friends at school, ansayzeeztings, amen.” It was one of the most touching things that I’ve seen him do.

Of course, he’s not a priesthood holder, but I can only imagine Christ looking down, smiling, and thinking “this kid’s going to be okay.”

(For those of you who don’t know what a “blessing” is in this context, I can have a couple nice young men come over and explain to you, just let me know, or ask one of your LDS (Mormon) friends.)
