After drawing criticism that she publicly announced that, as Mayor of Baltimore, she “gave those who wished to destroy space to do that”, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has recanted – sort of. Now the Mayor is saying that she never really said that at all and that those who say otherwise are somehow “twisting” her words.
“I never said, nor would I ever say, that we are giving people space to destroy our city, so my words should not be twisted.” – Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake
Here’s the clip that seems to contradict her most recent statement:
“… we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well…” – Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake
What’s your take?
So, what’s your take? Did the Mayor of Baltimore actually say that, as Mayor, she and the police gave those who wished to destroy space to do that?
Is the technicality that she gave generic or specific “space to destroy” rather than a blanket of “space to destroy our city” enough to justify her statement? Do you draw a distinction on “space to destroy” versus “space to destroy our city”? Why, or why not?
